Reinier van Campen (1970) is a law graduate from the Erasmus University Rotterdam. He started his legal career in 1997 at the insurance and transport law department of the Amsterdam based law firm Boekel de Nerée. In 1999 Reinier teamed up with Taco Wiersma and is one of the founding partners of Wiersma Mensonides. Reinier completed the post-graduate course (Grotius) course on Transport Law in 2000.

Reinier is executive board member (secretary) of the Netherlands Maritime and Transport Law Association and board member (treasurer) of the Netherlands Association of Transport Lawyers. Reinier is also member of the International Bar Association (IBA). Reinier regularly speaks at the Lloyd’s Maritime Academy.

Reinier’s practice is predominantly contentious but he is also experienced in handling non-contentious matters. Reinier is experienced in all transport modalities and is a specialist in shipping and road carriage (CMR). His work consists amongst others of dealing with cargo damage, personal injury claims, collisions, arrest of vessels and release proceedings, judicial sales and transport related criminal proceedings such as oil pollution cases. His non-contentious work consists of drafting and reviewing transport related contracts and general conditions. Due to his extensive experience in handling transport related claims and in drafting transport contracts, he also frequently advises in connection with M&A transactions involving transport related companies. Reinier’s client base consists of P&I Clubs, underwriters, ship owners, charterers, logistic providers and commodity traders.

Based on this registration, Reinier is required to obtain ten training credits per calendar year in each registered principal legal practice area in accordance with the standards set by the Netherlands Bar.
